Ubiquiti News
Ubiquiti has announced a sizeable expansion of its UniFi Physical Security line-up, adding six products that push the platform well beyond cameras and surveillance into life safety, environmental monitoring and biometric entry.
The new devices are a Smoke and CO Alarm, an indoor AI Speaker, a Vape Detection and Air Quality Sensor, the G3 Fingerprint Reader, the G6 Mini Dome camera and the AI MultiSensor 2. Ubiquiti is positioning the set as the remaining pieces required for large-scale, single-platform deployments.
For anyone already managing UniFi sites, the interesting part is not any single device but the fact that alarms, air quality data and door events now sit under the same management layer as video.
The UniFi Smoke Alarm uses SuperLink for long-range wireless communication through walls and difficult building fabric, and Ubiquiti quotes up to 10 years of battery life. It pairs with the new indoor AI Speaker to announce where an alarm has been triggered, and false alarms can be silenced from a dedicated mobile app. Further smoke and CO models are flagged for later.
The Vape Detection and Air Quality Sensor is a PoE device with no separate power requirement, using industrial-grade sensing with real-time calibration via the mobile app. Readings feed native UniFi automations, so environmental thresholds can trigger workflows rather than just logging data.
The G3 Fingerprint Reader is rated for indoor and outdoor use and supports Bluetooth, Touch Pass, PIN entry and fingerprint identification in one unit. It comes in black and white.
Importantly for retrofit work, it runs natively over PoE on new UniFi door access installs, and a retrofit-ready variant works with the UniFi Retrofit Hub where existing wiring and controllers are staying in place.
The G6 Mini Dome squeezes flagship imaging into a 100 mm housing, while the AI MultiSensor 2 puts two fully independent 4K sensors in one compact body to cover wider areas with fewer mounting points.
| Model | Resolution | Sensor | Housing rating | Audio |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| G6 Mini Dome | 4K | 1/1.8″ | IK08 vandal resistant | Two-way |
| AI MultiSensor 2 | Dual independent 4K | Not stated | IP66 weather resistant | Not stated |
This is a genuinely broad release rather than a routine refresh, and it changes the conversation for anyone specifying a whole-building system. Smoke, CO and air quality data landing in the same console as video and door events removes a category of integration work that previously meant a second vendor and a second app.
For prosumers running a home or small office network, the practical wins are narrower. The G6 Mini Dome is an easy sell where a full-size dome looks out of place, and the fingerprint reader is a sensible upgrade over card-only entry, but the vape sensor and AI Speaker are aimed squarely at schools, hospitality and multi-tenant buildings.
Integrators should note the retrofit path on the G3 and the PoE-only power on the sensors. Both reduce install time, but they also mean more ports and more budget on the switch — worth checking your PoE switch headroom and cabling plan before you quote.
One caution for Australian buyers: life safety products are subject to local standards and building code requirements, and Ubiquiti has not stated Australian availability or compliance details. We would treat the Smoke Alarm as complementary monitoring until certification and supply are confirmed here.
