Ubiquiti has announced a sizeable hardware expansion to UniFi Physical Security, adding six new devices that push the platform well beyond cameras and surveillance into life safety, environmental monitoring and biometric access control.
The new devices are a Smoke and CO Alarm, an indoor AI Speaker, a Vape Detection and Air Quality Sensor, a G3 fingerprint reader (listed as the G3 Biometric Reader), the G6 Mini Dome camera and the AI MultiSensor 2.
Ubiquiti frames the release as filling the remaining gaps for large-scale sites, which matters most for schools, campuses and multi-tenant buildings where safety, air quality and door control are usually handled by three separate vendors.
The UniFi Smoke Alarm is the headline addition, because it brings smoke and carbon monoxide detection under native UniFi management rather than a standalone panel. Ubiquiti quotes up to 10 years of battery life and says further Smoke and CO Alarm models will follow.
Communication is handled by SuperLink, Ubiquiti’s long-range wireless technology, which is intended to hold a reliable link through walls and awkward building layouts. Paired with the new indoor AI Speaker, the system can call out where a trigger actually occurred instead of just sounding a generic alarm.
The Vape Detection and Air Quality Sensor is a PoE device with no separate power requirement, using industrial-grade sensing and real-time calibration through a mobile app. Because it reports into UniFi directly, detections can drive native automations rather than sitting in a separate dashboard.
On the door access side, the G3 fingerprint reader supports Bluetooth, Touch Pass, PIN entry and fingerprint identification in a single indoor/outdoor unit, in black or white. It runs natively over PoE, and a retrofit variant works with the UniFi Retrofit Hub for existing buildings where the wiring is already in place.
Both new cameras are aimed at discreet installs, but they solve different problems. The G6 Mini Dome is a compact fixed dome for premium indoor spaces, while the AI MultiSensor 2 packs two independent sensors into one housing to cut the number of mounting points needed.

This is the most consequential Physical Security release Ubiquiti has done in a while, because it is not another camera refresh. Smoke and CO detection is a regulated category in Australia, and buyers should treat the UniFi Smoke Alarm as a monitoring and awareness layer until they have confirmed how it sits against local compliance requirements for their building class. That conversation belongs with a certified fire services provider, not a networking supplier.
For prosumers and small offices, the practical wins are the G6 Mini Dome and the G3 reader. A 100 mm dome with a 1/1.8″ sensor is a genuinely useful thing for retail counters, clinics and offices where a large turret looks wrong, and a single reader that handles fingerprint, PIN, Bluetooth and Touch Pass reduces the number of SKUs you need to specify per door.
Integrators will care most about the retrofit reader option and the AI MultiSensor 2. Halving the mounting points in a hallway or reception area saves cable runs, ceiling penetrations and labour, which is usually where the margin goes on a fit-out. Anyone quoting these should still plan power and switch capacity properly, because more PoE endpoints per site means more attention on switching budgets, cabling and backup power.
The vape sensor is the clearest school and hospitality play, and it is the sort of device that only makes sense because the automation engine is already there. As always, Ubiquiti has not stated Australian pricing or availability dates, so we would not build a project timeline around these products yet. Once local supply firms up, they slot neatly into the same UniFi console and Protect application our customers already run.
