Was waiting for this switch to take full advantage of the U7 Pro-XGS AP’s. It’s really worth it for my application and extremely pleased with the speeds over WiFi (6 and 7).
Only downside to this switch is heat. It runs typically at 64 degrees celsius (as internally measured and reported by the Ubiquiti portal) at idle when the ambient room temp is around 21 celcius. It does not feel that hot to touch (maybe 35-40 celsius tops to touch). But that heat does get into the cupboard. It’s installed in an enclosed cupboard in a theater room and no, its fans are not audible, even when I had nearly 60TB of data transferring between a NAS and multiple U7Pro-XGS Aps (all 10Gbe connections). The reported temp did jump to around 73 degrees and it’s fans were reported to be running at 30%, but was not audible when I was right next to it..
So I have rigged up a 200mm exhaust fan (running only at 5volts instead of the full 12volts) to auto turn on (TpLink tapo temperature sensor + smart plug–> Old iPhone charger + USB-A to DC fan header –> 200mm pc fan) when it gets warm in that cupboard, and that has resolved the heat build-up issue. It wasn’t a problem when I left the cupboard door slightly open, but leaving the for open wasn’t a long term option.
Also, a massive Kudos to the BUZY Networks team for providing outstanding service at the lowest prices I could find in AU. I hope you find a way to maintain that business model as you grow. Cheers!
